I WAS PAINTED BY A FAMOUS PORTRAIT ARTIST THIS WEEK!

I was so honored and so excited to be painted last week by Johanna Spinks, a world-renowned portrait artist.

photo (40)It was part of a television shoot for French 2, a national television station in France.  I was amazed to see the results of the painting thinking I look a little more glamorous than I feel.  Lol. But it was my “first time” sitting for an artist and I found it difficult to sit still!

We laughed, we talked and she painted a beautiful portrait.  I saw so many of my emotions in the painting.  I feel she paints the soul of her subjects.

A Very Sad Good-Bye to an Amazing Dog

This past week, right in between the day of my husband’s death, June 7th, and Father’s Day, our family dog, actually David’s dog Roxy, died suddenly. They tell me it may have been a stroke or a heart attack. No one really knows. I had just walked her, thrown the ball for her, and loved her. I left the house for three hours and it was during this time that she passed. I was, and still am devastated.

What Will It Take To Fix Our Broken Mental Health Care System After Santa Barbara Killings?

There were 6 Brutal killings in Santa Barbara last Friday in Isla Vista as a result of untreated mental illness.  Elliot Rodger, 22, was sick and unstable.   As a result, he killed six people and wounded 13 others.  I feel certain that his parents did everything to help him get help, think rationally, and behave as a “normal” mentally healthy 22-year-old man, should or would. I feel certain they were in an on-going battle with him to “get healthy”…In fact in a recent article online, it stated that he had been seen by a variety of mental health professionals and it was apparent that he was very, very disturbed.

GOOD GRIEF… IT’S VALENTINES DAY AND MY HEART IS BROKEN…

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVERYONE!  AND I TRULY MEAN THAT TO ALL OF YOU.  THAT SAID, AND THAT “IS” WHAT ALL THE CARDS SAY… BROKEN HEART

BUT FOR THOSE OF US WHO MAY HAVE “BROKEN” HEARTS, IT MAY NOT BE SO HAPPY.  POSSIBLY YOU’VE LOST A RELATIONSHIP WITH A LOVER, OR YOU’VE EXPERIENCE THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE, OR YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH A TROUBLED FAMILY MEMBER, OR YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH WORRISOME HEALTH ISSUES, OR YOU ARE ALONE.

THEN YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH A BROKEN, HURTFUL HEART.

I DON’T THINK THERE IS A CARD FOR THAT, SO FOR THOSE OF YOU, I WANTED TO MAKE SOME SUGGESTIONS IF THERE IS NO PERSON IN YOUR LIFE TO SHARE A ROMANTIC VALENTINE EXPERIENCE WITH ON THAT SPECIAL NIGHT.

My Article In Blindfold Magazine

IScreen Shot 2014-01-08 at 6.26.48 PM was interviewed for an article in Blindfold Magazine and WOW, what a piece! It’s called, “Self Denial, Self Medication and Self Help: Lucinda Bassett Navigates The Age of Anxiety”.

It’s a candid interview, and one masterfully written by the author, Kyle Thompson.  I’ve uploaded the entire 4-page spread for you to read here.   If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, depression, self-medication or self-doubt, I encourage you to take a few minutes and give it a read.

It’s a practical look at how to deal with these issues…and a peak into some of the issues I’ve overcome in my own life these past few years, too.
